Elevation angle effect on slant path attenuation along earth-space paths: A Northern Nigeria perspective

چکیده

Abstract In the network planning and design of terrestrial earth-space communication links, slant path attenuation caused by rain its associated strong winds is interest. Rain causes severe link degradation to radio links absorbing parts or whole signal during propagation. This study predicts in three (3) Northern Nigerian zones using International Telecommunications Unions (ITU-R) model for 10 40 GHz. The effect specific attenuation, elevation angle on received strength analyzed. ITU-R suggests values ranging from 4.26 dB 31.67 Jaji, Wudil, Potiskum. results further indicate a decrease with an increase up 50.1° monitored stations, which starts steadily after this threshold. Results can aid engineer anticipating changes fade mitigation techniques where necessary.

Estimation of rain induced attenuation on earth- space path

This paper describes research on earth-space attenuation on a microwave communications link set up at Belgaum-RC Nagar (Karnataka State), India, during July to September, each year. The rain data secured from India Meteorological Department, Bangalore has been used for analysis with the live data of rainfall recorded with the aid of two tipping bucket rain gauges, and a disdrometer. A simple mo...

Stay on path: PCA along graph paths

We introduce a variant of (sparse) PCA in which the set of feasible support sets is determined by a graph. In particular, we consider the following setting: given a directed acyclic graph G on p vertices corresponding to variables, the non-zero entries of the extracted principal component must coincide with vertices lying along a path in G. From a statistical perspective, information on the und...

Ku-band Rain Attenuation Observations on an Earth-space Path in the Indian Region

Measurements of rain attenuation over an earth-space path at Kolkata (22°34' N, 88°29' E), India, have been carried out since June 2004 by receiving a Ku-band signal from the satellite NSS-6 (geostationary at 95 E). The instantaneous attenuations are estimated from the point rain rates measured with an optical raingauge and using the Simple Attenuation Model (SAM). The estimated values closely ...

A STUDY ON THE EFFECTS OF SATELLITE DIVERSITY ON Ka-BAND RAIN ATTENUATION IN THREE EARTH-SPACE PATHS

The effects of satellite diversity on Ka-band rain attenuation were investigated in three propagation paths with azimuth angle separation of about 30 deg in Japan. The Ku-band (14/12 GHz) attenuation was converted to the Ka-band down-link (19.45 GHz) attenuation by the frequency scaling methods considering the difference of raindrop size distributions. As for the attenuation of 20 dB, time perc...
